Just when I think I have a reprieve from "event" sewing, Halley's preschool schedules a Hawaiian themed picture day. I thought... how perfect! I will whip up a little pinafore from a pattern I have been dying to try. The cover page screams "QUICK & SIMPLE!" Well it was if you consider four hours and lots of seam ripping either quick or simple. I happen to not agree. The cute flower on the front? Totally inspired by Jane Says and Little Bit Funky. It cutes up the dress a ton, but was only an after thought when I couldn't handle my hideous stitching underneath.
I have been sewing clothing for a little less than a year. Before that I limited myself to straight stiches without patterns. Think pillows, duvets and curtains. I am a visual learner and patterns from the fabric store put me over the edge. I found ebook instructions and tutorials and they changed everything. I need to see pictures of each step and many of them don't even have a pattern, just you, a ruler and your rotary cutter. I especially love free tutorials like the ones I will try to link whenever I can. I have also purchased quite a few from this site. Many have been easy and amazing. Others not so much. This dress is from that site and although I adore it and will make it again and again, it definitely pushed my skills.
That dress is absolutely DARLING!! Great job! I don't sew a bit, but wish that I could...:-) Lori
