The other day while on a rather long drive, Halley was unusually quiet and asking me how to spell random words and how to write certain letters. We were in my husband's car and I mistakenly assumed that she was writing on her Aquadoodle. Unfortunately she had fished his mileage ledger from the seat back and wrote on pretty much every page. Mind you, at the end of each month the log has to be filled out meticulously and then copied in order to turn in and get approved. Oops.
So part of me was so proud of her desire to write and draw in the car, but the other part was freaking out about how this would affect this and the next dozen month's mileage. I decided to pick up a handful of composition books and make a girly princess cover for them. That way she can still draw away without causing trauma to important papers.I just sewed a simple cover from a 12 x 24 piece of fabric. I thought about making a tutorial, but you can find the basics of this construction right here.
This is apparently a drawing of Lucy. I think it is funny how much hair she gave her, considering how close to bald she really is.
I am going to make one up for a lucky winner who leaves me a comment on this post. Just let me know if it is for a girl, a boy or for yourself (grown-ups can doodle too!). I will pick something fun from my fabric stash and pass on the composition book love. I will draw a winner on Tuesday morning. Comment away!
For my 3 yr old (almost 4!) girl. Thanks! How cute! :)
ReplyDeleteThose are fun to make aren't they?? I would LOVE one....for me. sorry, lily!

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice idea! I bought a notebook for my 2 and 1/2 year old granddaughter to use rather than lots of paper. She would feel really special if she had one with a cute cover!

Kendall and her sister Rylee have they doodle notebooks in the backs of the seats for long trips. ReplyDelete...I'd love one for myself. Very cute idea :)
i've been making a bunch of these lately! thanks so much for your help awhile ago on the little email tutorial. it was much easier than i thought it would be. you're so sweet to be so helpful!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I would love one for our son, who is 5 years old, if I won. He loves to draw and write too. He has scribbled on our van doors before, on the inside while I was driving, but he has a few fun drawing/journal books that keep him quite busy while on road trips now. So he hasn't scribbled on anything he’s not suppose to in quite awhile and that makes us happy! :)
ReplyDeleteJulie- I adore the one you made for me! I would love to have one made for my 5 year old, Katie. She is my budding artist.:-) Lori
ReplyDeleteGood idea! I have all boys, so no pink here. lol
ReplyDeleteI would love to win one for my daughter, she is 7 and the dog just chewed up her High School Musical notebook... she was very sad but it was a great lesson not to leave your notebook on the bench in the backyard!
ReplyDeleteThese are a fabulous idea....we have notebooks for work/home all over our house and my 6 yr old daughter always picks one up and adds a little info....it's fun because now she can write and it usually will say LOVE MOM or LOVE DADDY but it would be nice for her to have her own folder...huh? :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog via Polka Dot Mom blog. I look forward to reading more. What a great blog. My little girl would love a cover like that to call her own. Then maybe she will stay out of my notebooks. I don't think I have a single notebook in it without writing!
ReplyDeleteso cute! i would love to win one for my 4 year old daughter!!!

Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI have been lurking for a while...I hope you don't mind! You are so inspirational to me! And not just in the crafty department! Everyday I look forward to reading what you and your sweet little family have been up to. I have a 1 year old little girl, and I am sure when she is about to start writing on everything (she already loves writing on the furniture when she gets ahold of pens) this would be just perfect for her! Thank you for your wonderful blog! :)
When they had these compostion books on sale I bought a tom of 'em! 'Cause if I ever get around to it, I'm making covers, too!
ReplyDeleteAm I too late? I would love one for a 5 year old boy!
ReplyDeleteThose are too cute! You are quite crafty, momma! I think you are probably done with your drawing, so I will make one for my 5 year old son. Thanks for the great idea!
