All of you who complained all summer long....

"Wah wah wah.  It's freezing.  Summer is supposed to be hot.  Blah blah blah."

Jerks.

Because now it's hot. All the people who complained  that summer was too cold are now complaining that fall is too hot.

Boo on you.
It is all your fault.

So what did I do?
Cranked up the air conditioning.  At this point, what's another million dollars on top of the already exorbinant monthly electric bill?

Tied on my favorite apron.  The one that I didn't sew.  Because I know you will ask.  Pier One did. My sweet friend gifted it to me for my birthday last year.
I highly recommend always cooking with an apron.  Not necessarily for function.  Mostly for fashion.  Plus, guys dig it.  Just saying.
Then I got out my $5 garage sale masterpiece.
The bread maker that I decided that I needed as soon as I saw this Rosemary Bread recipe.
It had me at Macaroni Grill.
Jeannett, the bread queen, suggested that I use the bread maker just for the dough cycle, then transfer the dough into a loaf pan and bake it in the oven.  This was a brilliant tip.
It took all of two minutes measuring and pouring the ingredients into the bread maker.  A mere, effortless, 90 minutes later I had perfect dough.  30 minutes at 375º after that, I had fresh, fluffy bread, instead of the tell tale dense square that many bread makers produce.
Next was the soup.  Hot, spicy, hearty, bubbling, Pasta e Fagioli.  Herbs and spices and meat and dreams, all in one big pot.  It momentarily made me forget that it was 89º outside with it's warm, cozy aroma.

So take that, hot fall, and all your haters.
I chose to override you.  It was awesome.

Now I think I'll go swimming.
That's the only thing you are good for, dumb, hot fall.

  1. DUDE. I could write this post about NC.

Except if I wrote about the fact that we have had SIX MONTHS of 90+ weather coupled with 95% humidity I would cry.

And all my shirts are destroyed due to sweaty pit stains.

For the 8,000 calories I'm about inhale. Breadmaker mixing? Oven baking? Jeannett is a genius. And I blame the two of you for my new afternoon plans.

  19. What have you done?! I clicked on your link to the apron and now I have a list of things I NEED. I emailed my husband and said, would you like it if I wore this and he said yes! You were right! But what do I do about the other things? I need the colorful coffee cups that stack in that cute thing even though I don't drink coffee. I still drink water. Who said I can't put water in a coffee cup? And I NEED the canisters to hold sugar and flour and such even though I registered and got the oxo grip pop lid things that currently hold those ingredients. My list DOES go on. Why can't I have everything? :( Sorry about the weather. You won't have blizzards this winter though. That's good!

  22. YUM! Unfortunately, I'm the dummy that sold my bread maker for $5 at a garage sale last summer because I hadn't used it since we got it for a wedding gift in 1999. Kind of regretting it now... :(

And now I am baking those soups in the stinkin hot weather too. Whatever. I will do what I want. I just have a swamp cooler going...but whatever. Life is about making the best out of it right? HA, you crack me up! It is kinda weird huh!? I made soup tonight...I'm suppose to feel soupy. You know I'm a seaonally emotional food person. Summer-cucumber watermelon salad & bbq. Fall-soup & pumpkin bread.
    Winter-I don't know...kale?

  32. Totally, wholeheartedly agree! I live in the desert and all of my OC friends complained about how cold summer was and I thought 'suck it up, it could be worse!' lol! Now here it is the middle of October and still 100 degrees out here!! Ugh!
BTW Kristy from sosobella is one of my very closest friends, more like my sister actually and she suggested that I ask you if you know any bloggers from Virginia, I am moving there soon and was hoping to read up about it a little from someone who actually lives there.

  35. Julie- I haven't used my Cuisinart bread maker in about 3 years after two unsuccessful attempts at bread making...until this post. Had I known you were looking for a breadmaker I would have gladly donated mine over to you. But now! Oh ho, I will use it all the time now! And the bread turned out awesome!
