As far as I am concerned, pineapple is the most glorious of all fruits.
I could eat it every day. Every meal. Forever and ever and ever and ever.
{Fresh pineapple, mind you.}
It is the one item of produce that makes me totally ignore sales, prices or seasonal availability.
If a ripe, or nearly ripe one catches my eye, it inevitably ends up in my cart.
I can eat an entire one in one sitting. If given the choice between a cupcake from Sprinkles and a bowl of pineapple, the bowl will always win.
A few years ago, my sweet sis in law got me this GENIUS!!!!!!! pineapple slicer/ corer/ dealie.
It took my adoration for the golden goodness to a whole new level.
It is right up there with my favorite birthday gifts of all time. I even take it on with me on vacation. It has been to Kauai, twice, and let me tell you, I was happier that I packed it, than even my flip flops and sunglasses.
Totally worth the weird explaining to the TSA guy. HELLO! Who doesn't travel with their pineapple cutter? To the land of aloha and roadside pineapple stands?
With that I am off to cut and enjoy the pineapple that I just spent way too much money on. Money that was worth every single, out of season, penny.

ReplyDeleteSO funny! The thought of Kauai and pinapples...mmm....I so vividly remember buying a pineapple at a roadside stand near Waimea, and eating it with some fresh sourdough bread from a bakery in the north, I think? Thanks for sparking that wonderful memory. :)
ReplyDeletePlease tell me, how do you know when they are ripe? I just guess!
ReplyDeleteYUM! When I was pregnant, I craved pineapple and nothing else. I had to have it in the fridge, cut and ready to go at all times!

ReplyDeletemy sister hates pineapple. HATES. like, the mere thought of it makes her dry heave. it's so weird. anything even with a "tropical" flavoring...the chick gags. if it weren't for the fact that she were otherwise rad, i'd totally disown her.

ReplyDeleteonce upon a time, my husband bought an off-season pineapple that turned out to be $8. i was vexed about the $8. then, husband slices through his hand while cutting it, which resulted in a trip to the ER. With the copay, it was actually a $58 pineapple. where was the slicer when we needed it!
ReplyDeletePineapples sure are the yummiest!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one totally in love with my pineapple cutter (I have the same one)! Sooo much better than the Pampered Chef version.
