How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son

The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

    i love this one.
    i make it through and when i hit "it was my sin that held him him there" i lose it.
    everytime.
    crying.
    i am so thankful for jesus.

    There's something so great about those old hymns! I have a funny old hymnbook on my shelf that I'll just pull out sometimes and sing from, (totally geeky, I know). One of my faves is "The Old Rugged Cross."

    Hymns are such great pieces of music, poetry, prose, emotion... I found an old Hymn book at Good WIll and snatched it up. It's amazing how hard they are to find now that most churches are just tossing them by the wayside. But yes, this song... and they way my worship leader sings it...phenomenal.
    Always brings people to the alter.
