My favorite modern hymn.
The reason for my everything.
Why I have breath in my lungs, and hope for tomorrow.
{free printable available here}
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
One of my favorite hymns too!!! Powerful. Thanks for sharing!!

ReplyDeleteThere's something so great about those old hymns! I have a funny old hymnbook on my shelf that I'll just pull out sometimes and sing from, (totally geeky, I know). One of my faves is "The Old Rugged Cross."
ReplyDeleteHymns are such great pieces of music, poetry, prose, emotion... I found an old Hymn book at Good WIll and snatched it up. It's amazing how hard they are to find now that most churches are just tossing them by the wayside. But yes, this song... and they way my worship leader sings it...phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteAlways brings people to the alter.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
ReplyDeleteHis death and resurrection
